The story follows Kangaroo when she goes to school. When Kangaroo Goes to School, by Sonia Levitin is one that could definitely be read and enjoyed by older children as well. A typical special mission scenario occurs when an employer asks her employee to run an errand for her while the employee is either going to or coming from work. ![]() Special MissionsĪlso known as the “special errands” exception, injuries sustained while on a special mission for your employer are generally compensable under the workers’ compensation program. This type of travel is not considered to be a commute, as the worker’s employer is receiving a direct benefit from it. This exception also applies to employees who work in a fixed location but are asked to travel to another location, such as a different office or to the location of an off-site meeting. Under this exception, employees who travel as a major component of their job duties (such as delivery drivers, truckers, general contractors, etc.) are eligible to receive workers’ compensation benefits if they are injured in the course of their travels. ![]() The most logical exception to the coming and going rule is the traveling employees rule. If you think that your situation may be covered under one of these exceptions, please contact a Long Island commuting injury attorney to discuss further. There are a few exceptions to the rule that may qualify a worker for workers’ compensation benefits. The coming and going rule is not a blanket bar to compensation for injuries sustained while engaged in employment-related transportation. And third, the employer-employee relationship is generally considered to be suspended during the employee’s off-hours, including while commuting. Second, employers do not maintain or assume control of premises beyond their own, so they cannot fairly be held liable for accidents that occur outside their domain. First, employees are typically not “on the clock” while commuting, nor are they performing any job duties during that time. There are several rationales for the application of this rule. This is because commuting to and from work is generally not considered to be a duty within the scope of the worker’s duties or arising out of his or her employment. The “coming and going rule” of workers’ compensation excludes most commuting accidents from workers’ compensation coverage. Regardless of the individual circumstances surrounding your accident, if you were hurt while on the job, you may be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits and a job accident attorney is here to help you recover the full extent of your benefits. Work-related auto accidents typically fall in one of two categories - the injured worker drives for his or her job and is involved in an accident, or the injured worker was hurt as a pedestrian while performing his or her job duties. That’s where a job accident lawyer comes in. If you drive for a living or as part of your job and were injured in a work-related auto accident, you need a team of experienced job injury lawyers who can assist you in getting the workers’ compensation benefits you deserve. However, workers who drive for a living are much more susceptible to auto accidents, given the amount of time they’re out on the road. Work-Related Auto Accidents May be Managed by a Long Island Job Accident Attorneyįor many people in New York, driving a car, truck, van or other vehicle is all in a day’s work. While work-related injuries do not necessarily have to occur on-site at the worker’s place of business to be compensable under the workers’ compensation program, they must nonetheless happen within the scope of the worker’s employment. Some common examples of work-related injuries include slips and falls at the worker’s place of employment, injuries caused by machinery used in the course of the worker’s duties, and occupational illnesses and diseases. A work-related injury or illness is “an event arising out of and in the course of employment, that results in personal injury to a worker,” according to the New York Workers’ Compensation Board. Workers’ compensation benefits are available to workers who have suffered a work-related injury or illness. ![]() What Is a “Work-Related” Injury or Illness? As with the answer to most legal questions, it depends, as a Long Island commuter accident lawyer explains. As a result, one of the most common questions about the workers’ compensation program is whether it covers accidents and injuries sustained commuting to and from work. Given that over 85% of Americans drive to work, that works out to quite a lot of commuting accidents. Department of Transportation, there were a total of 6,755,841 passenger vehicle accidents, 73,930 bus accidents, and 10,024 rails accidents nationwide in 2019. Long commutes are among the most commonly cited frustrations among workers, but they can also be among the most dangerous. This bust of Green and his Chihuahuas in the frozen Utah desert was their first notable success. ![]() For over a year, agents from the DEA, the FBI, Homeland Security, the IRS, the Secret Service, and US Postal Inspection had been trying to infiltrate the organization’s inner circle. His relatively frictionless drug market was a serious challenge to law enforcement, who still had no idea who he or she was-or even if DPR was a single person at all. DPR, as he was often called, was the proprietor of the site and the visionary leader of its growing community. He had been hired by Dread Pirate Roberts, the mysterious figure at the center of Silk Road. Which is why Green found himself surrounded by an interagency task force. In that relatively short span, Silk Road managed to rack up (depending on how you count) more than $1 billion in sales. For a brief time, from 2011 to 2013, it was a wild success. Combining an anonymous interface with traceless payments in the digital currency bitcoin, the site allowed thousands of drug dealers and nearly 1 million eager worldwide customers to find each other-and their drugs of choice-in the familiar realm of ecommerce. To access Silk Road you needed special cryptographic software. Silk Road was hidden in the so-called dark web, a part of the Internet that’s invisible to search engines like Google. Green, under the handle Chronicpain, had parlayed his extensive personal narcotics knowledge-he’d been on pain meds for years-into a paying gig working for the site. It was like a clandestine eBay, a digital marketplace for illicit trade, mostly drugs. Over the past few months he had been handling customer service for the massive online enterprise called Silk Road. The fact was, Green wasn’t just your average Mormon grandpa. (The package was stamped with a red dragon, the symbol for high-quality Peruvian.) Over the whole scene was a needlepoint that said: if i had known you were coming, i would have cleaned up! Excited by the company, little Max stopped shaking just long enough to crap right in the living room. On the living room wall hung family photos-his wife, Tonya, their two daughters, and a grandson-smiling brightly above Green, lying amid $27,000 worth of premium flake. He looked at the busted door and thought, Man, that thing was unlocked. He could hear things crashing, some officers yelling, others whispering to each other. Splayed out on the carpet, Green was eye level with dozens of boots: A large tactical team-SWAT and DEA agents-fanned out through the house. Officers cuffed Green on the floor while fending off Max, the older Chihuahua, who bared his tiny fangs and bit at their shoelaces. When he tried to comfort his pups, a dozen guns took aim: “Keep your hands where we can see them!” Green dropped the package where he stood. There was Green, covered in cocaine and flanked by two Chihuahuas. Quickly the house was flooded by cops in riot gear and black masks, weapons at the ready. Just then the front door burst open, knocked off its hinges by a SWAT team wielding a battering ram. Green considered the package and then took it into his kitchen, where he tore it open with scissors, sending up a plume of white powder that covered his face and numbed his tongue. It was heavy, had no return address, and bore a postmark from Maryland. His little dogs watched him pick up the mystery package. On the porch sat a Priority box-about Bible-sized. A pale haze washed out the white-tipped Spanish Fork Peak rising above the valley. ![]() It was winter, a day of high clouds and low sun. Also odd was a van Green noticed across the street, one he’d never seen before: white, with no logos or rear windows. The guy was wearing a US Postal Service jacket, but with sneakers and jeans. He peeked through the front window and caught a glimpse of the postman hurrying off. Green waddled to the door, his two Chihuahuas, Max and Sammy, following attentively. ![]() To get around he sometimes borrowed his wife’s pink cane. At 47 his body was already failing him: He was overweight, with four herniated discs, a bum knee, and gleaming white dental implants. ![]() Green ambled over, adjusting his camouflage fanny pack. It was 11 am, and surprise visits were uncommon at his modest house in Spanish Fork, Utah, a high-desert hamlet in the shadow of the Wasatch Mountains. Fingers frosted synthetic white, he was startled to hear someone at the door. Curtis Green was at home, greeting the morning with 64 ounces of Coca-Cola and powdered mini doughnuts. “I imagine that someday I may have a story written about my life and it would be good to have a detailed account of it.”-home/frosty/documents/journal/2012/q1/january/week1 ![]() Over 200 hundred prerecorded voxels are already included.
